Deep Tissue Laser Q & A

What is Deep Tissue Laser Therapy?

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy is an advanced technology that provides relief from pain and helps reduce inflammation. Laser therapy is a safe and effective form of treatment, and unlike pain-relieving medications, doesn’t cause any side effects.

Laser therapy works using a process known as photobiomodulation. Photons, which are particles of light, enter your body at the source of the pain. There they interact with a substance called cytochrome c complex, which is part of the mitochondria that convert oxygen and nutrients into energy in your body’s cells.

As the photons interact with the mitochondria, biological changes take place, resulting in a reduction of inflammation and pain.

What conditions is Deep Tissue Laser Therapy used to treat?

Laser therapy is useful for treating both acute and chronic pain conditions. Starting treatment as early as possible minimizes inflammation and optimizes recovery. Dr. Boze finds laser therapy particularly suitable for:

  • Tendonitis
  • Bursitis
  • Sprains
  • Strains
  • Muscle spasms
  • Trigger points

Laser therapy is also useful when treating patients who have chronic pain conditions, reducing long-standing inflammation and pain.

Dr. Boze can calibrate the Deep Tissue Laser Therapy unit to create the ideal power input for your particular condition.

There are various treatment heads available for use in different areas of the body; for example, Dr. Boze would use a different treatment head on a bony joint to the type of treatment head he’d use on a large area of muscle.

Using these techniques in combination with the programming capabilities of the unit makes laser therapy a uniquely customizable solution for chronic pain.

What does it feel like to have Deep Tissue Laser Therapy?

Laser therapy is an entirely noninvasive procedure that doesn’t cause any pain or require an anesthetic.

You may not feel much at all during your treatment, or you might feel a soothing sensation of warmth. Patients who receive a laser massage using the massage-ball treatment head often say this feels particularly pleasant.

Each treatment lasts around five to 10 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area, and you should feel a difference in the level of pain very quickly following your treatment.

The effects continue, as the changes in the cells carry on for up to 24 hours after your laser therapy session. Most patients find they experience significant pain reduction after three to five treatments.
